Montecalvo's weekend at Circuit of The Americas abruptly ends

Keasbey, NJ – Friday, March 1, 2013 – Eagerly approaching the second round of competition in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series this weekend at The Circuit of The Americas, Frankie Montecalvo’s weekend comes to an unexpected end.

Montecalvo and Nick Mancuso, co-drivers the No. 16 Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage, are unable to compete in the GRAND-AM of The Americas Presented by GAINSCO and TOTAL race due to a technical noncompliance issue related to Aston Martin and shipment of the race car from England. Aston Martin officials are investigating the noncompliance and have resolved to remedy the issue before the next race.

Montecalvo and Mancuso made their presence known at last month’s GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series opener at Daytona International Speedway with a fourth place finish, after spending less than one week in the race car.

The next race on the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series schedule takes place at Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 3-6.

“This is not how we expected this weekend to start and end in Austin. Nick and I were really looking forward to racing the Aston Martin at The Circuit of the Americas. The facility is amazing and we couldn’t wait to hit the track.

“We have to accept our fate and the decision of the series officials. I’ve got to thank Larry Holt and the entire Multimatic Motorsports team for all the hard work they’ve done for both us this season.

“We are both really disappointed. It is early in the season and anything can happen in the next couple of months. There’s a lot of racing left in the season. We entered this race fourth in points and we’re not sure where we will be after the event. Nick and I are just that much more determined in performing well for the rest of the season.”
