Krohn Racing Has Positive Outlook for New Jersey Grand-Am Race

Krohn Racing is going into the New Jersey race with a positive outlook for the Verizon Wireless 250 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Round 3 on the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series schedule. After suffering DNF (did not finish) results at the season opener at Daytona and last weekend at Virginia, the Krohn Racing team has a positive outlook that the results will be better at the two hour and 45 minute Millville, NJ race.

The No. 76 Krohn Racing Ford Lola of Nic Jonsson and Ricardo Zonta will be seeking their first victory of the season. Team owner/driver Tracy W. Krohn and teammate Eric van de Poele will be watching and cheering on their team from off-site locations as the No. 75 Ford Lola is not currently scheduled to compete again during the 2009 season.

QUOTES:

TRACY W. KROHN, Team Owner/Driver Krohn Racing:

VIR was a tough finish for the Krohn Racing team with the car going out on the second lap. Tell us about that.

"The team did a great job at Virginia and brought a good, fast car to the racetrack. We were on the top of the time charts all week. Unfortunately, we had some bad luck in the race when Nic got hit in the rear on the second lap. The suspension and other damage that caused were too much to fix and get back out in the race in a reasonable time. With the sprint races, if you go a lap or two down, you're out of contention."

After seeing what the other cars can do in a sprint race this year, do you think Krohn Racing has a podium finishing combination for 2009?

"Absolutely! Competition is always tough in Grand-Am because even though you are improving each race, so is everybody else. That said, we showed good lap times. Now we just have to finish a race and prove it."

Was it odd for you to be watching the race from VIR on TV instead of being in the pits and participating?

"It is just as disappointing to have seen the VIR incident happen from afar as it is to watch it at the track. We will be much better at New Jersey and I look forward to a more positive result."

NIC JONSSON, Driver, No. 76 Krohn Racing Ford Lola:

At VIR you went out on the second lap but you had strong times all weekend. How are you feeling going into the New Jersey race?

"I think there's no different approach going into NJ than we had going to VIR. I still believe we have a very strong package with the Ford power and the Proto-Auto Lola. The Krohn team has done a fantastic job over the winter. We had a strong car in Daytona and a strong car in VIR. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical issue at Daytona and we got taken out by another car at VIR. It's just the business we are in, I guess. Sometime you have luck and sometimes you are unlucky"

How do you like the New Jersey race track?

"I know they have changed the configuration for this year where they are taking the fast kink out on the back straightaway and have put a chicane in there instead. I don't know if that's going to be good or bad for us. I don't think it really matters because we are all going to have to race the same track. I really enjoy the configuration of the track and I think the facility is fantastic. I really believe it is going to be a good track for us."

RICARDO ZONTA, Driver No. 76 Krohn Racing Ford Lola:

How do you like the New Jersey race track?

"I like the New Jersey circuit. It has many corners, 14 total, so there are many transitions and high downforce. Last year we had problems with all the dust coming across the track whenever somebody went off, but I think that should be much better this year."

At VIR the car went out on the second lap but you had strong times all weekend. Tell us about that.

"We had a very good car and good times at VIR. We should have another good car at New Jersey. This time I hope to be able to drive in the race because we went out early when Nic got hit in the back at VIR. If we can finish the race I think we will show what a good and well-prepared car we have."

After seeing what the other cars can do in a sprint race this year, do you think you have a podium finishing combination this year?

"Yes, we have a very good car and should have some good results this year. We hope to have some victories. We are certainly strong enough."

DAVID BROWN, Krohn Racing Team Manager and Engineer:

At VIR, the team went out on the second lap but showed strong times all weekend. How are you feeling going into the New Jersey race?

"We are ready to produce a good result. We have still yet to prove ourselves. We have developed the car more over the winter and since Daytona. We had a good car in New Jersey last year but engine issues prevented us fromgetting a good result. We should be better this year, and although we expect everyone to have improved since then, we think we can win the race."

After seeing what the other cars can do in a sprint race this year, do you think you have a podium finishing combination in 2009?

"Yes indeed. The field is strong, the competition is fierce and we will be in amongst it!"

How do you like the New Jersey race track and what's going to be the toughest part about the race?

"The track has a wide range of corners ona short lap. It's a high downforce track where good balance is the key. As a race which was late in the season last year, we have a more direct setup reference to our current car configuration, which will narrow the setup window for us. The race itself was punctuated with many yellows last year, and could well have several this year too. That will make the strategy interesting and varied, so the running order may not be resolved until the very end of the race.We are looking forward to the race very much and would enjoy the opportunity tocompete in more than just two laps this week!"
