Spirit of Daytona Qualifying Report at Mid-Ohio
Doug Goad qualified the Spirit of Daytona 09 Pontiac Crawford 19th overall for the Emco Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio in the Grand American Rolex Series. Goad's laps consistently dropped in time providing for an exciting 15-minute show. The rain soaked track was dry by the time the last lap was turned.
Goad along with co-driver Marc-Antoine Camirand were pleased with the racecar's performance. "When we were driving in the rain this morning we had the second fastest lap time on track, our car always does well in the puddles. But rain or shine we have a great car here," said Goad.
Camirand perfected his handling in the car and kept clear from hydroplaning of track. "If you don't have your tires in the right groove you will go off the race track. It is a little bit of a scary drive," said Camirand.
Troy Flis, team owner/manager was happy with the Daytona Prototype's performance during qualifying. "Overall we have a good racecar here. There are a few things we need to work on before the race but the car is pretty good. Doug has been in and out of the Daytona Prototype and our GTO all day. He is going to need a good rest tonight. Tomorrow morning he will be ready to start fresh and go racing," said Flis.
The team had all day on Thursday to test the Prototype in wet conditions and even made it through the rough winds of a storm that destroyed property and uprooted trees across the Mid-Ohio region. Before the storm Guy Cosmo was able to jump in the Prototype and help test the car on track. Cosmo and Camirand's input helped the team get a handle on the car's setup.
Spirit of Daytona Racing will take the track at 5:30PM on Saturday evening for the Emco Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio.
