COMPUSA MUST TAKE UP THE CHASE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN MID-OHIO
INDIANAPOLIS (August 24, 2005) -- Standing firm with 261 championship markers, two wins, three poles and nine Rolex Sports Car Series events in the rearview mirror, CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has reached the final five-race stretch where performance will be paramount if they are to repeat as champions of Grand American's Daytona Prototype division. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will serve as the starting gate for that stretch run as the series settles in the Midwest this weekend for Round 10 of the Rolex Series.
"This is the time to show these guys what we're made of," said 2004 Mid-Ohio Daytona Prototype polesitter and racewinner Scott Pruett. "We had a strong showing here last year and I'm looking forward to doing it again on Saturday night. Luis and I are both fond of this track, and we should have a good car, so now is the time to start picking away at the points lead. It all starts here."
Co-driver of the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley Luis Diaz knows that a tight championship battle with points leader SunTrust Racing (282) will be key for him and his Mexican contingent of sponsors as the series will finish out the year with its first-ever trip to his native Mexico City as part of a doubleheader with the Champ Car World Series.
"This has always been one of my favorite race tracks," said Diaz, who posted a season-best third at Mid-Ohio in 2004 with then teammate Jimmy Morales. "When I started racing in the United States, this was one of the first tracks I ever competed on in [the now defunct] Indy Lights Series. The course really suits my driving style which is important, and the CompUSA team has put in the effort to win races. I think we will have a great car this weekend and be able to fight for points. We need a championship battle heading into the end of the season."
Fans of CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates can catch the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley in action at the EMCO Gears Classic in Lexington, Ohio this Saturday, August 27th (TAPE DELAY, SPEED Channel, 12:00 pm ET, Sunday, August 28th) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round 10 of the Rolex Sports Car Series.
