Borcheller Qualifies 12th Friday in Kodak EasyShare Car For Saturday's EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 26 - The Bell Motorsports/Feeds the Need Racing's entry in Saturday's EMCO Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will start from the 12th position. Terry Borcheller of Gainesville, Ga. qualified in that spot Friday in the Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Pontiac No. 54 with a time of 1:22.624 and an average speed of 98.383 mph for the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course.
He'll share the car with Ralf Kelleners of Dusseldorf, Germany in Saturday's race, which is scheduled to go 250 miles, 111 laps or two hours and 45 minutes. It will be televised on a tape-delayed basis at noon ET Sunday on SPEED.
The big news in qualifying was what happened to the car that's leading the current point standings, as the session was shortened dramatically when the SunTrust No. 10 caught on fire in turns two and three. Luckily driver Wayne Taylor wasn't hurt, but the car suffered extensive damage.
The rest of the field, including the Kodak car, only completed three or four laps in the session due to that accident, and Alex Gurney ended up with the pole in the Gainsco/Blackhawk Racing car with a 1:20.395 (101.111 mph).
Earlier in the day the Kodak car was 10th in the first practice session with a 1:21.438 (99.816 mph) and fifth in the second practice session with a 1:21.592 (99.627 mph).
Although the skies were overcast all day, no rain fell at the track on Friday.
