(Columbus, OH) 15 August 06--With both team entries picking up awards this past weekend, the Crown Royal 200 at the Glen was a fruitful one for Michael Shank Racing.
Drivers Mike Borkowski and Tommy Constantine were happy recipients of the "SunTrust Improve Your Position" award this weekend at Watkins Glen for their run from twenty-first on the grid to finish seventh in the last Rolex Sports Car Series round at Barber Motorsports Park.
Borkowski and Constantine picked up the winning check at the Glen round drivers meeting, as David Pijot, Senior Vice President of Sports and Entertainment Banking, Motorsports Division, and Tom Kuntz, President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Florida, were on hand to deliver the super-sized check.
"I wasn't very happy in qualifying after getting bottled up in traffic during the session, but we knew we could move up if we just raced hard and kept our nose clean," said Playboy Racing driver Constantine. "I want to thank SunTrust for supplementing our budget a bit!"
The weekend's award-winning wasn't isolated to the Playboy Racing/Mears Motor Coach entry, either, as Mark Patterson earned the Jim Trueman Award medal for his run with Oswaldo Negri to fourth at the finish. Patterson started the race from sixteenth on the grid and moved up smartly to ninth before turning the car over to Negri. The effort extended Patterson's lead in the Jim Trueman Award standings with two rounds of Rolex Sports Car Series racing to go.
The Crown Royal 200 also marked the fourth-straight double top-ten result for the Columbus, Ohio-based team in Daytona Prototype competition. The No.60 Flight Options Riley-Lexus machine currently holds eighth in the championship, with the No. 6 Playboy Racing/Mears Motor Coach Riley-Lexus tied for eleventh with a five-point deficit to the top ten.
The team will head West to Infineon Speedway near Sonoma, California, for the Rolex Sports Car Series debut event at the wine country facility before closing the season out on Labor Day weekend with the Discount Tire Sunchaser 9 Hour race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
