Michael Shank Racing press release
Rolex 24 Champions Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian Look for Momentum at Barber
Birmingham, Ala. (26 March 2012) –Following the storybook Rolex 24 win which opened the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season in a big way for Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian, the team rides a wave of momentum ahead of this weekend's Porsche 250 for round two at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend.
GRAND-AM regulars John Pew and Ozz Negri joined AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson in the No. 60 LiveOn.com Ford-Riley for the 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 At Daytona event and dominated most of the race to win the 24-hour endurance classic in the team’s ninth attempt.
Pew and Negri will be back behind the wheel of the No. 60LiveOn.com Daytona Prototype this weekend and will look to build on the strong start to the season with another run to the podium. With four podium finishes at the track, Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian has traditionally run very well at the scenic 2.3-mile Alabama road course.
Those results were highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2010 for the No. 60 machine of Pew and Negri. The duo looks to go one better this year and stand on the top step of the podium.
“For whatever reason, we’ve had more success at Barber than almost any other track,” offered team owner Mike Shank. “But we’ve never won there and that’s our goal this weekend. It’s great to have the confidence that this team does at Barber and coming off of the Rolex 24 win makes us hungrier for another. The best way to maintain the championship lead is with another win so we just want to plan our strategy right and hopefully come out on top.”
In addition to the numerous media appearances following the big win, Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian has been continually working to improve the No. 60 DPG3 machine. The team recently spent time testing at both Sebring and Palm Beach International Raceway as Pew and Negri clocked hundreds of laps during the two days of testing.
“Winning at Daytona was such a cool way to start off the year, just an unbelievable experience for this entire organization” said Negri, who will make is 100th Rolex Series start this weekend. “We had a dream team this year and it was the best way to start the season. We’ve enjoyed this feeling of winning the 24 but now, we have to maximize every weekend this season. We are still learning the new Riley, but John and I were encouraged with the little bit of testing we’ve done. Hopefully put us in a good position for the next few sprint races. With everyone learning the new DP’s, there is so much ground for all the teams to cover. Every session will be key to unlocking more with the cars. This is going to be a very busy season and I couldn’t be more excited. ”
