Michael Shank Racing Announces New Partnership
"Graydon Elliott Fusion Racing with MSR" ready for 2006
(Daytona Beach, FL) 3 January 06--Michael Shank Racing (MSR) is pleased to announce a new partnership has been formed to operate and manage the #6 Riley-Lexus for the 2006 season. MSR will team up with Canadian based Fusion Racing in an arrangement which will see MSR manage the day-to-day team operations while Fusion manages the business behind the scenes, including sponsorship and marketing for the team.
MSR owner Michael Shank said this type of partnership is a first for him, but he feels it will benefit the development of both organizations as it gives everyone the ability to concentrate on their areas of expertise.
"The partnership with Fusion Racing and MSR is very exciting," said Shank. "Both groups bring certain strengths to the partnership which we see as a winning combination."
New to the Grand American road racing scene, Fusion Racing is a Canadian company involved in many aspects of the motorsports industry such as providing sponsorship opportunities, organizing and hosting corporate hospitality events, racecar development and manufacturing and racing equipment distribution. The company's focus is providing and managing motorsports sponsorship opportunities for Canadian companies doing business in the United States.
Fusion Racing managing partner Dennis Bainbridge said he was impressed with the results as well as the heart behind Michael Shank Racing's efforts last season and he is happy to have the opportunity to work with Mike Shank and his crew.
"Forming a partnership with MSR made sense for us," said Bainbridge. "Mike puts a top quality, professional product on the track and that allows us to focus on the business side of motorsports. I feel we have a great package here and I look forward to an exciting 2006 season for the #6 car."
Bainbridge added he had started looking at the Rolex Sports Car series in 2003 and was impressed with the rapid growth and support from the series owners to develop the series into something a lot bigger.
"In two seasons the series has seen increased team participation, sponsorships and media coverage and my team felt it was the best option for Fusion and the sponsors we are working with," Bainbridge said. "In Canada as well as the US, we are seeing a growing interest in Grand American road racing and we are going to do our best to increase that interest on both sides of the border."
Based in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Shank Racing (MSR) was formed in 1989 when Michael Shank first began driving racing cars professionally. Shank retired from the cockpit in 1997 to focus his efforts on running the team, which quickly found success in the Champ Car Toyota Atlantic Championship. With several race wins under his belt, Shank was named as Team Owner of the Year twice in four years. MSR joined the Rolex ranks in 2004. MSR has four Rolex Sports Car Series podiums, with Mike Borkowski, Paul Mears Jr., Kenny Wilden, Oswaldo Negri, Mark Patterson, and Burt Frisselle as drivers.
