Spirit of Daytona's Mexico City Qualifying
Spirit of Daytona Racing with Bobby Labonte qualified 23rd for the race at Mexico City. Qualifying driver, Larry Oberto prepared to climb into the No. 09 Daytona Prototype for his first qualifying session with the team and gained a new sense of confidence. " I have been doing a lot of thinking since Daytona including visualization and mental preparation for this race. I feel more confident and the car is becoming very familiar." Oberto's focus has helped his lap times during the practice and qualifying sessions for the 09 Spiralz Jewelry/ Oh-Boy Oberto Beef Jerky Daytona Prototype.
Seattle Native, Oberto, drove the majority of the morning practice session on Friday and his lap times continued to improve. Co-owner/co-driver, Doug Goad also felt comfortable behind the No. 09's wheel. Goad noticed the track changes that were made from last year's setup. "I really like this track setup much better. It is still a challenging course, but it's much easier to race this year compared to last November."
During the February break both drivers focused on improving their mental and physical shape for racing. Oberto said, " I took to the gym to increase my endurance and focus. I have been doing a lot of downhill skiing and have been doing exercises to improve my hand, foot, and eye coordination." Goad has also been focusing on hand foot coordination to improve on his reaction time in the car.
The drivers' off track preparation has paid off and Troy Flis, co-owner/ team manager is happy with the results. " The 09 DP is getting pretty good fuel economy on track and it has been acting pretty consistent. We just need to prepare the car so it's comfortable for both drivers."
Spirit of Daytona Racing with Bobby Labonte will take to the track at 3:15PM at Mexico City.
