Blackforest Ford Mustang Cobra GT ready for Mexico debut
Tagliani teams with Nastasi for Mustang Cobra GT Rolex sprint race
Daytona Beach, FL (1 March 07)-Alex Tagliani will rejoin Tom Nastasi and Blackforest Motorsports this weekend for round two of the 2007 Rolex Sports Car Series on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico. The two and a half-hour race distance in Saturday's Mexico City event marks the first sprint race of the Rolex season after the series opened 2007 with the famed Rolex 24 At Daytona enduro in January.
The USG Sheetrock/Guardian Insulation Ford Mustang Cobra GT made an impressive debut in Daytona, setting a time in practice that smashed the previous GT qualifying track record by nearly two seconds and proved to be quicker than the GT class pole-wetting time. Blackforest Motorsports learned a great deal about their new Mustang GT-class entry during the Daytona event, and is looking forward to putting those lessons to use on the 2.5-mile high-altitude Mexico City track.
Tagliani has proven quick in previous visits to the Mexico City facility, most recently taking fifth place in the 2006 Champ Car season finale last November.
"I am really excited about this weekend because we are going to a track that I already know with a Mustang that was very quick at Daytona," said Tagliani. "We still have a lot to learn about this Mustang and are up against some competition that has a lot more miles with their cars, but I think everyone is excited to see how hard we can push it in this sprint race. I really enjoy working with Brian Nott and we are all really excited about the potential this Mustang has showed so far. It is going to be a good test because running at this altitude puts extra stress on the car. Tom (Nastasi) and I have been working really well together and have been having a good time with this Mustang, and hopefully we can be quick again and score a good result."
The USG Sheetrock/Guardian Insulation Ford Mustang Cobra GT rides on a Crawford chassis and utilizes Roush/Yates power. The Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class is contested by a range of production-based sports car entries, from the Porsche GT3 Cup to the Pontiac GXP.
