Magnus Racing Heads to Test with Strong Driver Lineup for Rolex 24 at Daytona
December 31, 2009 (Salt Lake City, UT) -- The no.44 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car raised some eyebrows with its form during the Rolex Sportscar Series' December test at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and heading in to next week's Roar Before the 24, the team is proud to announce their official driver lineup for the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona. With help from Porsche Motorsports North America, Magnus Racing is headed in to the month of January as one of the most competitive in the field.
Magnus Racing's full-season drivers John Potter, currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, along with Craig Stanton, from Long Beach, California, will be joined by Porsche factory drivers Marco Holzer and Richard Lietz.
Re-joining the team following their fifth-place finish last year, Richard Lietz, twenty-six years old from Austria, is also a winner at the 24 Hours of LeMans and a runner-up at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2009. Lietz is also a vastly experienced endurance driver, having competed in a Porsche in every major endurance contest worldwide.J
Holzer, recently having graduated from Porsche's junior ranks to a complete works driver in 2011, is no stranger to 24 hour competition. He made his Rolex 24 at Daytona debut with John Potter and Craig Stanton in 2009 in car no. 65, and the young German was part of the BMS Scuderia Italia team that finished third at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT2.
Team owner John Potter will be contesting his third Rolex 24 at Daytona, while Stanton has contested the endurance race numerous times with a best finish of fourth in 2005. Stanton is also a veteran of the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit LeMans.
Headed in to next week's official test, the team is filled with confidence about the event.
"I am very proud that Porsche Motorsport has thought enough of our program to arrange for Marco and Richard to join us for the Rolex 24," said Potter.
"It is very exciting to share the No.44 Magnus Racing Porsche with three talented drivers, and we are all very excited to head into the Roar Before the 24 next weekend and get to work with our drivers. Everyone at the shop has been pushing very hard to get our 2011 Porsche GT3 ready for our first big test of the year, and I know that as a team, embarking on our second year should be full of promise."
