Liddell puts Stevenson Camaro fifth on Detroit 200 grid

Detroit, Mich. (31 May 2013) – Every race is important, but for Stevenson Motorsports, racing in Chevrolet’s home town adds even more ambition this weekend as GRAND-AM stages Round 5 of the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series championship in Detroit.

The team, which proudly carries the red, white, and blue on the No. 57 Stevenson Automotive Chevrolet Camaro GT.R, will look to continue its run of strong results on Saturday after Robin Liddell qualified fifth for Saturday’s Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 (SPEED, 5pm ET). Liddell will open the two-hour sprint race from behind the wheel before turning the car over to teammate John Edwards.

The duo enters the weekend on a veritable hot streak as winners of the last two Rolex Series races. The track at Belle Isle carries a new configuration for the 2.35-mile layout, with a longer back stretch that should see increased opportunities for overtaking on Saturday. While the track is slightly changed from last year, the team is hoping for a similarly strong result to their third place from 2012.

Liddell’s fast lap time of 1:36.119-seconds was just under a second off the pole time, set by the No. 61 Ferrari. While the Scotsman’s best efforts were hampered slightly during the short, fifteen minute session, the team has a positive outlook ahead of Saturday’s race.

“We struggled with a misfire since the beginning of the weekend and we still seem to have this misfire that we can't get rid of,” said team manager Mike Johnson. “I still don't think that would have caught us to the Ferraris, but I think we would have been at least a little closer. We just have to fix that first and then I think we should be okay for tomorrow. Everything is good."

A half-hour practice session will give the team one more chance to make improvements ahead of the drop of the green flag at 12:25 PM (ET).
