Zogaib carries podium momentum out West to Laguna Seca
Career-best Rolex result buoys confidence for Zogaib
Monterey, CA --(15 May, 2008)--It's only been a few weeks since Henri Zogaib enjoyed the spray of champagne from the Rolex Sports Car Series podium at Virginia International Raceway with co-driver Ryan Dalziel, but the breakthrough podium result still has Zogaib in high sprits ahead of this weekend's Rumbum.com 250 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The runner-up finish was nearly as close as one could get for the Samax Motorsport duo, with Dalziel coming across the line just an eye blink behind the race winner. After finding success on the challenging natural terrain road course in Virginia, the two will look to keep that strong race momentum going again on the famed 2.2-mile circuit on the picturesque Monterey peninsula.
Zogaib will look to put the playbook from last few races, which saw him qualify the car and move up early in the race before turning the machine over to Dalziel, to use once again has he makes his Daytona Prototype debut at Laguna Seca.
"VIR was a very challenging track to learn but when you got a good lap in, it was really rewarding and that is what I am expecting again this weekend," said Zogaib. "I know that the track has not been kind to Ryan in the past, but he has always been very fast there and hopefully we can have some good luck roll our way. I expect Samax to have another excellent car for us again this weekend, as the team has been doing a fantastic job and I've been really pleased with how this BMW-Riley program has been coming together.
"It was an amazing experience to have so few starts in the Rolex Series and get the chance to stand up on the podium, a really special memory for me. But that was the last race, and now we are focused on doing what we can to be in that kind of competitive situation again. I'm really excited about racing at Laguna Seca in a Daytona Prototype this weekend, and am just looking forward to keeping things moving forward after VIR."
The Rumbum.com 250 will be broadcast on Speed Channel at 12:00 PM ET on May 18.
