KENSAI RACING WITH COMPASS360 EXTEND THEIR KONI CHALLENGE EFFORT
Building upon a strong 2006 season, which led to Acura winning the Manufacturer's Title in Grand Am Cup, Kensai Racing and Compass360 (both of Toronto, Canada) confirmed today that they'll be extending their relationship for the 2007 season. Kensai Racing will field two Acura TSXs, as well as their sole remaining RSX from 2006, with primary sponsorship from Compass360 Design + Advertising.
"We had a great 2006 season, helping Acura win the Street Tuner-class title," said Crew Chief Ray Lee. "We've got a great driver line up so far, and I think -- this being our third year in Grand Am -- we're ready to shoot for the championship."
Karl Thomson and Billy Johnson -- who notched the team's best result in 2006 -- will race together for the season in the #76 TSX. Travis Walker joins the team for his third year, with co-driver Beau Buisson in the #75. Drivers are currently being interviewed for the last seat in the #74 RSX, which proved itself last season by being top on of the charts in most sessions, and will be co-driven by London, Ontario karting star Matt Pritiko.
"I can tell you that the drivers we've signed can't wait to test the Acuras," said Thomson, who after three top five results in 2006 is looking to repeat his winning effort at VIR in '05. "The Kensai Racing with Compass360 RSXs were often the class of the field last year, and we really believe the TSXs will continue that tradition."
"Kensai is getting great support from Acura," Lee continued. "And Skunk2 has really stepped up and given our effort their all, along with our other partners from 2006 (which include Hawk Brakes, W3connex, Burry Signs and compass360.com). It bodes well for the series, because we know everyone else is raising their game as well!"
The Kensai Racing with Compass360 Acuras will be ready for Grand Am's Daytona test in early January in preparation for the KONI Challenge Series' first race at Daytona a few weeks later. They'll be displaying a bold new livery design that's completely in sync with the Street Tuner scene.
Kensai Racing specializes in high-end performance products and tuner upgrades for Japanese cars. They have fielded Acuras in Grand Am Cup since 2004, and have won the Ontario Touring Car Championship and the Quebec Championship.
