MIAMI, Fla. (February 26, 2004) -- Chip Ganassi will probably be the busiest team owner at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend with four of his teams' cars racing in the Grand Prix of Miami and Toyota INDY 300. The CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team will field the No. 01 and No. 02 Lexus Riley XI in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race on Saturday, and the Target Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team will field the No. 1 and No. 10 cars in the IRL IndyCar Series race on Sunday.
"It looks like I'm going to be VERY busy this weekend and spending most of my time in pit lane," joked Ganassi. "All kidding aside, there isn't anything I would rather be doing. It's a lot of work, but Chip Ganassi Racing is made up of such a strong grouping of hard working people that understand what it means to be a team. And that is what this is about, we may have different cars in different series but it is a total ONE team effort. That has been the key to our successes, and I am very proud of that."
In the team's debut Rolex Series race, CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Scott Pruett put the No. 01 Lexus Riley on the pole for the Rolex 24 At Daytona. After being plagued with cockpit ventilation woes during heavy rain storms, the team finished 10th overall and sixth in class in its maiden voyage.
The team also announced at the Rolex 24 that it would add a second Daytona Prototype to its stable for the remainder of the season. Mexican drivers Jimmy Morales and Luis Diaz will debut the team's No. 02 Lexus Riley in this weekend's Grand Prix of Miami, complementing Pruett and Max Papis in the No. 01 Lexus.
Qualifying for the Grand Prix of Miami will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with the green flag falling on round two of the Rolex Series on Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale for the Grand Prix of Miami, as well as the entire Toyota INDY 300 weekend, online at www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com.
