MIAMI, Fla. (March 1, 2001) - Phoenix American Motorsports #39 Pontiac Firebird recorded the fastest times today during both practice sessions for the Grand-Am Cup race being held at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. Bill Lester and John Heinricy piloted the car to a 1:28.650 lap time at 97.462 mph for the fastest overall and in the SGS class.
Team Hurricane Racing was right on the tail of the #39 with the second-fastest time overall and in the SGS class with a 1:28.741 lap time at 97.741 mph. Floridians John Bourassa and Lance Stewart were behind the wheel of the #76 Porsche 911 Turbo.
The #70 Speedsource Porsche 911 recorded the fastest lap time in the GS class with a 1:32.381 lap at 93.526 mph. Two more Floridians, David Haskell and Sylvain Tremblay, drove the car to the fastest time. The ST class was led by Power Team Racing's #77 Acura Integra R. Mike Keravich and Jason Potter piloted the car to a 1:36.156 lap time at 89.854 mph.
Motorsport Technologies clocked the fastest time in the C2K class with Toto Lassally and Henry Kowalski recording a 1:35.475 lap at 90.495 mph in the #21 Acura Integra GSR.
Grand-Am Cup will hold qualifying on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Homestead-Miami Speedway for its three-hour race, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
