Orbit Racing continues to lead the GT class after the second race of the 2004 Rolex Sports Car Series season. The team made up a one-lap deficit and just missed the GT podium in Saturday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Jay Policastro started the No. 44 Classic Industries Porsche 911 GT3 RS from third on the GT grid, but lost one position at the race start. Despite a badly worn right-front tire, he held fourth place, then handed off to Joe Policastro after 51 minutes of the two-hour 33-minute race. The timing was unlucky, as a caution period started immediately after the pitstop, causing the team to lose a lap to the No. 67 Racer's Group Porsche. Mike Fitzgerald drove the final 50 minutes of the race, regaining the lost lap and moving to within 1.315 seconds of the No. 67 Porsche, to finish fourth in class.

Mike Fitzgerald

"We had a pretty solid run. Jay did a great job in qualifying third - only a few tenths off the pole - and ran a great first stint. We were very unlucky because we pitted r ight before the yellow came out so we lost a lap to one of the Racer's Group cars. Joe ran a real strong second stint and got us back into contention, and the yellows late in the race got me a lot closer. I managed to close the gap through the traffic, but the last guy I came to was his teammate, who ran blocker for him. I did everything I could to get by him, but we missed the podium by a little over a second. But fourth is good and we're still in the points lead."

Jay Policastro

"We started third and we finished fourth, so all in all, it was a good day. We had some good driving stints. The yellow happened right after we pitted - we were out of fuel, so it didn't change anything - but the 67 got an extra lap as a result of it and they ended up beating us by a second at the end. Mike did a great job catching up, my dad had a great day driving as did I, so we're real pleased with our performance today."

Joe Policastro

"It was a heck of a race! Everybody did a fantastic job, the crew had everything just right and Jay and Mike were outstanding. And I'm sure our sponsors, Sabatello Companies, brought us some extra luck. Finishing fourth was okay - we probably should have been up there in third, but we'll get 'em next time."
