DIAZ QUALIFIES COMPUSA CAR FOURTH FOR GP OF MIAMI
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (March 24, 2006) -- Coming off the biggest race of his career in Mexico City, Luis Diaz piloted the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley to a fourth-place qualifying effort for tomorrow's 250-mile Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Diaz will start the 109-lap "sprint" race before handing the off the driving duties to co-pilot Scott Pruett.
Diaz rolled off pit lane third in the Daytona Prototype qualifying line, and turned in a top lap of 01:14.524 (111.105mph) on his seventh tour of the 2.3-mile infield road course.
Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates will look to continue its winning ways in Daytona Prototype competition after capturing the opening round of the Rolex Series in the Daytona 24, and the popular win in Daiz' native Mexico City earlier this month.
The Grand Prix of Miami, Round 3 of the Grand American calendar, airs tomorrow at 8:00pm ET on SPEED Channel.
CGRFS Driver Quoteboard
LUIS DIAZ "I was pushing the car as hard as I could, and managed to turn a very good lap on our second to last lap of the session. The nose of the car wasn't biting and turning in as well as I'd liked, but it's not a bad effort. I think after we missed the final practice session earlier in the day, we missed out on the opportunity to dial in the car for qualifying, but that's the way it goes. Starting from the second row is somewhat disappointing because we have very high expectations."
