LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 14, 2013) – Wayne Taylor got an early Father’s Day present Friday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, when his sons Jordan and Ricky took the top two positions in qualifying for Saturday’s GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Diamond Cellar Classic.

Jordan Taylor captured his second consecutive TOTAL Pole Award in the Daytona Prototype class with a lap of 105.642 mph/1 minute, 16.947 seconds in the Wayne Taylor Racing No. 10 Velocity Worldwide/Toshiba Corvette DP. Taylor and co-driver Max Angelelli went on to win the most recent Rolex Series race – the Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 at Detroit Belle Isle two weeks ago – taking the lead in the Daytona Prototype championship.

Ricky Taylor led the session early on with a lap of 105.567/1 minute, 17.001 seconds in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com/Go-Pro Corvette DP before being eclipsed by his younger brother with less than two minutes remaining.

“Ricky was probably the last person I’d want to bump off,” Jordan said. “We’re not the kind of brothers that want to beat each other. But I know if I was in his position, I’d be furious.”

That was a proud moment.

The Taylors will lead the field to the green flag Saturday for Round 6 of the Rolex Series season at 4:30 p.m. (SPEED, live).

“That was a proud moment,” Wayne Taylor said. “One lap, Ricky was on the pole, and then the next lap, Jordan was on the pole. I’m obviously happy to have both of my kids on the front row – this is the first time that’s happened.”

Christian Fittipaldi qualified third in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP co-driven by Joao Barbosa, 105.295/1 minute, 17.200 seconds, followed by Jon Fogarty in the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP and Burt Frisselle in the No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP.

In GT qualifying, John Edwards captured his second pole of the season, running a lap of 97.988/1 minute, 22.957 seconds in the No. 57 Stevenson Auto Group Chevrolet Camaro GT.R. Edwards and co-driver Robin Liddell will be seeking their fourth consecutive GT victory in Saturday’s race.

Boris Said made it an all-GM front row, running a lap of 97.649/1 minute, 23.245 seconds in the No. 31 Marsh Racing Corvette co-driven by Eric Curran. Defending GT champion Emil Assentato took third, running a lap of 97.340/1 minute, 23.509 seconds in the No. 69 AIM Autosport Team FXDD Ferrari 458 co-driven by Anthony Lazzaro. The top five GT qualifiers were under Jordan Taylor’s three-year-old track record.

“We’ve had three wins in a row, but we’ve had to fight hard every time,” Edwards said. “I’m very encouraged by both practice and qualifying today. We’re going to roll off better tomorrow than the last three races. I think we’re in a better position to fight for the win – rather than defend for the win.”

In the first run for the GX class at Mid-Ohio, Tom Long captured his third pole of the season with a lap of 92.594/1 minute, 27.790 in the diesel-powered No. 70 Mazdaspeed/SpeedSource Mazda6 GX co-driven by Sylvain Tremblay.

Saturday’s schedule also includes Round 5 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, with a two-hour, 30-minute race beginning at 10:25 a.m. Jade Buford and Jesse Combs broke their respective class records in Friday’s qualifying.

Buford captured his third Grand Sport (GS) pole of the year, running a lap of 89.868/ 1 minute, 30.453 in the No. 55 Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage co-driven by Scott Maxwell. In Street Tuner (ST) qualifying, Jesse Combs captured his first career pole position with a lap of 85.467 mph/1 minute, 35.110 seconds in the No. 56 Atomic Capital/Mosing Motors BMW 328i co-driven by Jeff Mosing.
