Cosmo Impresses in Ten Motorsports Daytona Prototype at Homestead
New Grand Am Team Tests Young Guns to Fill Rolex 24 Roster
(December 3, 2004 -- Homestead, FL ) Guy Cosmo joined four other young open-wheel stand-outs at Homestead-Miami Speedway for a limited test in the Ten Motorsports BMW / Riley Daytona Prototype. Cosmo was first to pilot the car and quickly turned laps that would stand as the fastest of the five in the test.
Ten Motorsports team principal Rob Finley chose only five drivers to test out of 75 prospects considered for the test. In addition to 2002 Star Mazda Champion Guy Cosmo, the drivers tested included Dan DiLeo, Jonathon Bomarito, Leo Maia and Mark Plummer. Ten Motorsports, under the watchful eyes of Steve and Rick Cameron, carefully evaluated the five drivers. Overall, Cosmo was pleased with his performance, but felt he could squeeze more out of the car still.
"I was very happy with the test," said Cosmo. "The car inspired tremendous confidence. It was letting me know it wanted to go faster, but I ran out of time to squeeze everything out of it. With only fifteen laps to try, I did what I could and I'm happy with my result. I'm also happy to know I can go much faster yet."
"The performance of this car today is just a glimpse of what to expect from Ten Motorsports next year, and also a testament to the growth and development of the Daytona Prototype class. I drove in five prototype races in 2003, and driving this car today was a whole new experience."
Ten Motorsports will field a Dinan BMW powered Riley Daytona Prototype in the 2005 Grand-Am Rolex Series. Trackside operations will be handled by Cameron Motorsports Management. The team's principal drivers are Michael McDowell and Memo Gidley. The test was conducted to fill out the Rolex 24 line-up and perhaps adding a driver from the test to select races in the upcoming season.
Cosmo admits that the talent level was deep at the test.
"These are some of the country's top young drivers right now," said Cosmo. "I am very grateful to Rob Finlay at Ten Motorsports as well as the Cameron's and Mike McDowell for the opportunity to test. It was a great day"
