DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 14, 2004) -- "Spirit of Daytona" Racing is pleased to announce that Stephan Gregoire has been signed to contend the entire 2004 12-race season of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. Stephan will be the primary co-driver of Spirit of Daytona Racing owner/driver Doug Goad beginning at the 42nd Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 29 - February 1.
Gregoire comes to Spirit of Daytona Racing with impressive credentials that include six starts at the Indianapolis 500 where he qualified seventh in 1993, his rookie year, and finished eighth in 2000, both career highs. Gregoire has also competed at the 24 Hours of LeMans in France where he finished fifth in 2003 in the LMP 900 class. Gregoire was born in Neufchateau, France and currently resides in Carmel, Ind., with his wife Virginie and children Eliza and Romeo.
"I am very pleased to be driving in the Grand American Series," said Gregoire. "The Crawford Daytona Prototype looks like it's going to be a very competitive car which will give Doug and I a chance at winning the championship this year.
"I am very eager to test the car prior to the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and feel fortunate to be able to compete in the full schedule this year."
"We have had several very talented drivers approach us since we announced our program last month and I am pleased to make this announcement today," said Troy Flis, co-owner/team manager of Spirit of Daytona Racing. "Stephan has a lot of experience in several types of racing cars including sports cars, and I am confident he will do a great job for us this year."
"Like Troy stated, we are glad to have our co-driver signed for the entire Rolex Series season, and I feel that Stephan's experience in sports cars, especially at LeMans, will help him adjust quickly for the upcoming Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, as well as the rest of the schedule," added Goad.
