Burt Frisselle Set for Watkins Glen Return with GAMMA88
Watkins Glen, N.Y. (11 August 2011) – Burt Frisselle rejoins AIM Autosport this weekend as he returns to GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series competition behind the wheel of the No. 61 GAMMA88 Daytona Prototype with co-driver Mark Wilkins at Watkins Glen International for Round 10 of the 12-race championship.
Frisselle returns to AIM Autosport after having joined Doran Racing in the previous round of Rolex Series competition at New Jersey Motorsports Park along with his brother Brian and co-driver Henri Richard. The experienced Colorado driver has jumped from different chassis and motor combinations throughout the season, having also raced for Action Express Racing twice this year.
But every time out and no matter what his driver suit looks like, Frisselle has been quickly up to speed in each race despite the challenge of adapting to the differences of each car.
The New Jersey round did not yield the results the Frisselles had anticipated when the cooling system on the No. 77 Doran Racing machine malfunctioned on one of the hottest Rolex Series race weekends on record, but Frisselle returns to a track this weekend that has brought him success in the past. Frisselle landed on the podium with a second place result in his debut at the New York track’s 2.45-mile short course in 2004 and the No. 61 AIM Autosport Daytona Prototype started from the front row in last year’s Watkins Glen “short course” event before contact with a competitor saw Frisselle and Wilkins finish a disappointing 11th place.
In eight years of racing Daytona Prototypes at the historic Watkins Glen circuit, Frisselle has amassed eight top-10 finishes – three of which took place on the 2.45-mile short course. Frisselle finished fifth at the track earlier this year when he joined Action Express Racing for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen which uses the longer 3.4-mile course.
Having scored two fourth place finishes in four starts with AIM Autosport so far this year, Frisselle looks for another strong run at the front and hopes to go one further and capture his second podium at the famed New York track.
“It’s great to have GAMMA88 on board and to be back with AIM Autosport this weekend,” said Frisselle. “We didn’t have the race that we wanted at Road America with Gamma88 that we had been looking for, so I’m glad to have a shot at bringing them some success this weekend. It’s been fun racing for different teams and I’ve learned a lot. It helps me to focus on just getting in the car and being fast, and I’ve also been grateful to see how different teams operate. But, I’ll definitely admit that being back in the AIM Autosport car is like being at home. We’ve had some good results together so far this year and hopefully we can bring home another one on Saturday.”
