Mark Blundell is in third in the No. 23 United Autosports with Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley, followed by Christian Fittipaldi in the Action Express Racing Porsche Riley and Nicolas Minassian, who was one lap down to the leaders, in the Krohn Racing Ford Lola. Next came two cars that were two laps behind Hand: the No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford Dallara and the SunTrust Racing Chevrolet Dallara. Mark Wilkins, Buddy Rice, and Marc Goossens rounded out the top-10.

The Gainsco Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet Riley was 42 laps behind the leaders after having experienced brake problems, a damaged exhaust pipe, and suspension damage incurred in an on-track incident with Juan Pablo Montoya.

A broken radiator relegated the pole sitting Flying Lizard Porsche Riley to 11th overall, 17 laps behind McMurray. After 21 hours, the car still owned the race's fastest lap, in the hands of Joerg Bergmeister.

Dense fog slowed the race for about two hours and 45 minutes around 5:30 a.m. The field circulated behind the pace car for 61 laps.

TRG's Porsche GT3s held down first and third in the GT class, with the No. 67 entry having the upper hand on the No. 66 car. The Paul Miller Racing Porsche was second in class.
