Grand American Season Finale Marks Debut Weekend For StuttgartPerformance.com Porsche Team
Oct. 29, 2004 -- FONTANA, Calif. -- The StuttgartPerformance.com Porsche Team will travel only a short distance to compete at this weekend's Grand American season finale at California Speedway on Oct. 31. This race is a homecoming for the newly formed StuttgartPerformance.com Porsche team that hails from nearby Costa Mesa, Calif. Newport Beach resident Geoff Escalette and co-driver Hugh Plumb of Chadds Ford, Pa will pilot the No. 63 Porsche GT3 Cup car in the SGS class. Escalette and Plumb will also compete in the season-ending Grand-Am Cup race, the Lexus Grand-Am Cup 250 on Saturday, Oct. 30, driving the team's No. 25 StuttgartPerformance.com 996 Porsche.
Although Escalette and Plumb have not competed in the Rolex Grand American Series since earlier in the 2004 season, the co-drivers have a strong record of competition during this season including a second in class qualifying at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. They went on to finish seventh in class due to mechanical difficulties during the grueling 24-hour race. Escalette and Plumb also finished fourth in class at the Miami Grand Prix.
"It feels good to be back in the driver's seat in the Grand American Series and especially since it's in my own backyard at California Speedway. We've put a lot of work into both the 996 and GT3 Cup Porsches during the past several months and we're ready to get back into action. I'm looking forward to racing this weekend and seeing what Hugh and I can do out there. It would be great to have a strong finish with the majority of our sponsors being local and to end the season on a high note would be tremendous," Escalette said.
The Rolex Series Lexus Grand American 400 will get the green flag at 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, Oct. 31. SPEED Channel will broadcast the race live. The Lexus Grand-Am Cup 250 will be shown tape delay on SPEED Channel at 2 p.m. Pacific Time on Nov. 7.
