Lola scored its fifth successive victory in the Grand American Road Racing Championship at the weekend with its B2K/40 SR2 sportscar.

The Snow/Schumacher Racing team claimed the class win in the Sargento Road America 500 event, at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, USA, on Sunday (July 9), ending Archangel Motorsports' run of five wins in a row (four of which were in a Lola SR2).

Drivers Martin Snow and Larry Schumacher faced a tough task in the race after Saturday's qualifying session was washed out forcing the organisers to line up the grid from championship positions.

This put the team's Nissan-powered car fourth in class at the start (13th overall) but an excellent getaway, that saw the Lola move to second, and a good pit-stop strategy ensured it hit the front before the mid-point of the 500-mile, 125-lap round seven of the series. From there, Snow and Schumacher were never headed and took the chequered flag a lap ahead of the second-placed SR2 finisher and ninth overall.

The Archangel Motorsports Lola, driven by Americans Ryan Hampton, Larry Oberto and Canadian Paul Macey, came home third in class to take a 45-point lead in the SR2 championship.

Lola also led the race on several occasions with its faster and more powerful B2K/10 SR1 sportscars. Philip Creighton Motorsports' Ford-engined Lola was battling for the outright victory after taking the lead three times in a close battle with the eventual winner, but engine problems late in the race saw it finally come home seventh.

Intersport Racing, whose Judd-powered Lola was so new the team did not have time to paint a livery on it, also headed the field twice and eventually finished fifth.
