Detroit - Round 5 of the Rolex Sports Car Series at Belle Isle, Detroit was anything short of dull for John Edwards, Robin Liddell and Stevenson Motorsports. Just across the river from the General Motors World Headquarters, the Number 57 Camaro scored a third consecutive Rolex GT win Saturday afternoon in the Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200.

After limited on track time to practice, Liddell qualified the Camaro in fifth place. On a track typically difficult to pass, Liddell gained three positions during his race stint, putting Edwards in the position to contend for the lead.

Liddell pulled into the pits in second place during a caution to take on tires, fuel and change drivers. A pit lane mishap for the leading GT car and expert pit stop by the Stevenson Motorsports crew allowed Edwards to join the field in first place before the field returned to green racing.

From the Stevenson Motorsports pit box, Chevrolet representatives cheered on as the Camaro lead the GT field's restart. With 46 minutes of racing left on the clock, Edwards pressed forward, keeping ahead of the rest of the field, fighting pressure from the Ferraris, who were showing faster speeds. However, though consistency and some defensive driving, Edwards stayed in the lead until the checker flag.

"Hats off to the Stevenson guys," said Edwards. "They really got us in the lead. We haven't been dominating in these past three wins, but the team has made the right calls and perfect pit stops. The last three races we made our pass for the lead in pit lane or through strategy calls. We weren't always going the fastest, but the team has really gelled together."

This win brings Edwards and Liddell up to second place in the driver championship standings, just five points away from the lead. June 15th, Edwards and Liddell continue their quest for the championship at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round 6 of the Rolex Sports Car Series.
