24 HOURS OF DAYTONA: ENGINE FAILURE FORCES MATTEO BOBBI TO THE RETIREMENT
25/01/2009 - Matteo Bobbi concluded his 24 Hours of Daytona ahead of schedule, due to an engine failure during the seventeenth hour of race. The Ford engine if the number 77 Dallara belonging to Doran Racing, sponsored by Mc Donald's broke in the same way other engines of the American brand did, causing the retirement of five other crews before Bobbi's.
"It's been a crazy race, full of twists. We have been in fourth position for around six hours and for a few laps we have been on the lead. The breakage of an element of the suspension made us lose the ten laps to fix the problem and we were pushed back to the thirteenth position. We did not give up and we recovered up to the seventh position but unfortunately the engine forced us to the retirement.
We lacked on reliability but we were competitive: without the suspension problem, engine allowing, we would have probably fought for the podium."
