Daytona, Florida (January 9, 2005) - The SunTrust Racing team was pleased with the results of this weekend's Daytona Test Days for the 2005 running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. The No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley Mk.11 arrived with a new Riley chassis, ready to hit the ground running in preparation of the new season. And that they did!
As of Sunday noon, the team topped the overall combined session chart with the best lap time of the weekend at 1:46.729 at 120.080 average miles per hour around the historic circuit, set by Max Angelelli in Friday evening's session.
Bill Riley - "We accomplished what we set out to do this weekend. We're pleased with the results but we'll continue testing from here. We go test on the dyno on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, we'll do a wind tunnel test and probably another track test before the race. The changes we made to the new chassis have proven themselves this weekend. You never know what can happen in a 24 hour race, but we feel positive that we are doing the right things to be as prepared as possible."
Wayne Taylor - "We're happy with the new car and we're looking forward to coming back to the 24 Hours."
Max Angelelli - "I am extremely happy how the test went, especially thinking about the test we had last year when we basically did not run at all. The competition this year is going to be extremely hard. I am not expecting that anything will come easy. We really have to look at the tires this year more than last year. I am extremely impressed how this championship turned and the very high level of drivers involved for the race. I want to thank everyone that made this possible."
Emmanuel Collard - "We tried to improve the set-up of the car for the race because at the moment it is quite difficult with the tires. They are good at first but then you loose the rear grip. We found a good set-up Saturday. We need still to improve a little bit but we are quite happy with what we found."
