Daytona, Fla. (February 5, 2000) - The green flag dropped at 1:00 p.m. to start the 38th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway with the No. 20 of the Dyson Racing Team leading the first lap.

Alex Caffi, the outside polesitter, in the Risi Competizione Ferrari 333 SP, spun off track at the west horseshoe turn on the first lap. An early full course caution closed up the field handing Caffi a reprieve for his first lap mistake.

At the two-hour mark, the No. 12 Ferrari of Caffi, McNish, Kelleners and Schiattarella is in the garage changing a gearbox.

The Dyson team has made an unexpected pit stop after putting a bad set of tires on the car. The team continues to run in the top five.

Notes:

The No. 31 Ford Lola B9810 of Franz Conrad, Jan Lammers, and Sascha Haassen installed a new gearbox in the car in preparation for today's race. When the team dropped the new transmission into the car, they found it wasn't interchangeable. In order to facilitate the new transmission the rear end of the car was cut off.

The No. 95 of TVR Motorsport lost a half hour in the pits to change a fuel injector. Although they're several laps down, the team of Peter Boss, ZR.J. Valentine, Tom Volk, and Barry Waddell are back on track.
