TRG to Field Four Car Team at Brumos Porsche 250
Petaluma, Ca. (June 28, 2006) - TRG returns to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway for the annual midseason event, the Brumos Porsche 250. The team has watched its lead in all three champoinships in the Rolex Series GT class shrink over the past few events, and are fighting tooth and nail to hang onto the slim lead they currently have. Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards in the #64 TRG/iRise Pontiac GTO.R and Marc Bunting and Andy Lally in the #65 TRG/F1 Air Pontiac GTO.R sit in the top three for the Drivers and Team competitions, and thanks to their strong running all year, Pontiac is leading the Manufacturers battle. The competition has been drawing closer, and it will surely be an exciting sprint through the end of the season.
Team owner Kevin Buckler notes that "Daytona is always a challenge, for all the teams, because you are basically in and out of town in 48 hours. Not to mention we just raced four days ago. The entire event takes place Thursday, which minimizes the time we have to make adjustments between practice and race time. There truly is zero margin for error. It's hard to believe that just a year ago at this event we debuted the GTO's. That was the only race that one or both of our GTO teams hasn't been drenched in champagne when the engines stopped running."
"We are gunning for a win, period. We need it to begin to build our points lead back up. That being said, this will be one of the more difficult events of the year for us. Not only is Daytona a track that will favor the Porsches, but Grand Am has placed another performance restriction on our cars, reducing our intake from 62 to 58mm. Its really going to bring down our top speed against the Porsches. This race is all about speed on the infield, a good setup and consistent performance from the drivers and the team alike."
In the TRG Porsche camp, Jim Lowe and Jim Pace make a return in the #66 car to where they debuted as a team and look forward to another strong run in the GT class. Also driving a TRG Porsche will be veteran R.J. Valentine in the #67, along with TRG driver Mike Solley. Mike is a regular in IMSA and the Speed World Challenge. This will be his inaugural Rolex Series event. Buckler is "looking forward to seeing these guys succeed for many reasons. Porsche is our heritage at TRG, and I just flat out love running Porsche teams. Its great to have Jim Pace and Jim Lowe back after their awesome racing at Watkins. That performance was just phenomenal. I'm excited for Solley, this will be his first GT class event. There is nobody better suited to be by his side and help initiate him than R.J., who has over twenty starts here at Daytona. They will make a great combo, and should do really well."
Watch TRG race in weeknight action at Daytona will air live on SPEED TV this Thursday, June 28th at 7pm EST (4pm PST).
