RUM BUM RACING FINISHED SEVENTH AT DAYTONA 250
Hawthorne, California, uly 5, 2008 - Rum Bum Racing co-drivers Gene Sigal and Matt Plumb finished seventh last Thursday night in the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway. The team could have scored a better result at the end of the race since their No. 7 Rumbum.com/Big Vision Miami/Caramba Tequila Dinan BMW was one of the fastest cars on the track but the last 10 laps were slowed by two different accidents that prohibited Matt Plumb from scoring another top five.
This excellent result allowed the Rum Bum Racing team to move up two positions in the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car series team point standings where the team is now eighth overall after 8 races, not too far from fifth!
The Brumos Porsche 250 was the only one day Rolex Series event on the 2008 schedule. Competitors entered in this event had to practice, qualify and race all in the same day. Teams had to be very prepared and drivers had to fight the hot and humid summer Florida conditions as well as fatigue all day to finish the race on top.
Right away the team showed its potential when Matt Plumb was one of the fastest cars in the morning session. Later in the day Gene Sigal ran very well in qualifying and started 14th on the grid.
Gene Sigal did a very good job during the first stint and ran as high as fourth in the first 45 minutes of the race before handing the wheel to his teammate, Matt Plumb.
Matt drove the remainder of the race and was very competitive especially at the end of the race. Unfortunately, the last part of the race was full of racing incidents on the track which triggered multiple yellow caution periods that did not allow Plumb to get back to the front of the pack and score another anticipated top five finish for Rum Bum Racing.
"We had a very fast car tonight" announced Rum Bum Racing co-driver and team owner, Gene Sigal, after the race. "The team prepared a very good car and I was able to have a good first stint and stayed away from the problems on the track. Matt did an excellent job and I thought that at end he would be able to fight for a top-five. Well, with this good finish we are now strongly in the top ten in the point standings and this was one of our season goals for 2008. I am excited and look forward for the next race in Alabama" added Sigal.
