GT and GTS teams vie for $14,000 Acxiom prize.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 2, 2003) -- Teams competing in the Grand Touring division of the Rolex Sports Car Series at this week's Paul Revere 250 will have extra incentive to finish in front. A special $7,000 bonus for this race has put the grand prize of the Acxiom Grand Touring Challenge up to $14,000.
The Acxiom bonus program offers a $1,000 prize to the fast qualifier in both the GT and GTS classes at each race. If either of those cars wins the Grand Touring division by posting the best overall position among the GT and GTS entries, they earn an additional bonus. Any money that is left unclaimed is rolled over to the next race.
The winner's bonus has gone unclaimed since the Grand American 400 at California Speedway, allowing $6,000 to rollover to the Paul Revere 250. The rollover money coupled with the special $7,000 Daytona bonus and the $1,000 fast qualifier bonus means that $14,000 is up for grabs in the Acxiom Grand Touring Challenge.
"Acxiom has more than $80,000 in awards offered in this year's program," noted Grand American Director of Marketing Greg Otte. "With the special emphasis on the Paul Revere 250, this week's race should be a fierce battle with all the GT teams trying to get that big prize."
Seven teams have earned Acxiom bonus money so far this season including Acme Motorsports, Derhaag Motorsports, Gardeniron.com, Heritage Motorsports, Orbit Racing, Scuderia Ferrari of Washington and The Racer's Group.
The Paul Revere 250 will begin on Thursday night immediately following NASCAR Winston Cup qualifying. Tickets for the Paul Revere 250, as well as the entire Pepsi 400 event weekend, are available online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 386-253-RACE.
