128 drivers to pilot Porsches at 2004 Rolex 24 at Daytona on January 31

ATLANTA -- January 12, 2004 -- When the green flag drops for the 42nd running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, 128 Porsche drivers will be on hand to participate in 28 Porsche 911-based race cars and three Porsche-powered Daytona prototypes.

Led by defending overall and GT champion #66 The Racer's Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS (Kevin Buckler/Timo Bernhard/Jorg Bergmeister and newcomer Patrick Long), both the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT3 Cup cars will frequent the two GT classes, and three Fabcars powere d by Porsche will compete in the Grand-Am's Daytona prototype class.

"This is one of the largest turnouts of Porsche race cars every at an internationally-sanctioned race," said Uwe Brettel, president of Porsche Motorsport North America, the U.S.-based company responsible for all of Porsches racing activity in the U.S. and Canada.

"With 56 cars currently entered in the race, Porsches make up more than half the field, and we are pleased that some many top U.S. and Canadian race teams have chosen to race 911s and prototypes powered by Porsche," added Brettel.

During the official practice days at Daytona International Speedway last week, the Porsches teams showed they were ready to compete for victories in all the classes, as the teams were either first or second in each category.

The Racer's Group recorded the fastest time in the GT class. The team's No. 66 Porsche 911 GT3 RS of Kevin Buckler, Jorg Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard and Patrick Long turned a 1:54.785 lap at 111.652 mph, more than a full second better than their 2003 qualif ying time.

The AASCO Motorsports No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Craig Stanton and David Murry clocked the quickest time in the Super Grand Sport (SGS) class with a 1:57.074 lap at 109.469 mph.
