19 HOURS AT THE ROLEX 24 SHOWS PORSCHE TEAMS STILL IN CONTENTION FOR BOTH GRAND-AM CLASSES AT DAYTONA; #59 BRUMOS ONE LAP FROM THE LEAD; #85 FARNBACHER LOLES LEADS GT
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- January 28, 2007 - The #59 Brumos Porsche Riley, driven by Hurley Haywood, with co-drivers J.C. France, Joao Barbosa, Roberto Moreno - with David Donohue added as a contingency driver, continues to hunt down the leaders of the 45th annual Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, running fifth/one lap down after 19 hours.
The David Donohue/Darren Law/Buddy Rice/Scott Sharp #58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche Riley, currently in 47th position overall, added a broken steering arm to its list of problems previously reported, and the team once running second overall is far back in the pack.
The next Porsche Daytona Prototypes in the standings the #23 Ruby Tuesday Alex Job Racing Porsche Crawford (Patrick Long/Jorg Bergmeister/Romain Dumas), which added a wrong tire choice - costing them a position - to the failed alternator and broken transmission reported earlier. The car is currently running eighth overall, one lap out of seventh and 11 laps behind the leader.
The No. 47 TruSpeed Motorsport Porsche Riley (Timo Bernhard, Charles Morgan, Rob Morgan, BJ Zacharias) had an earlier transmission oil leak and broken radiator, and is now in 12th place.
The Rolex GT class has tighten up considerably, with the #85 Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Dirk Werner, Jorg Hardt, Pierre Ehret and Leh Keen) in the lead, but the #07 Pontiac lurking only 27 seconds behind. The #64 TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Johannes van Overbeek, Jim Lowe, Jim Pace and Ralf Kelleners is third, just one lap down.
The race finishes at 1:30 PM EST Sunday.
