ROLEX 24 - PORSCHE MOTORSPORT TEN HOUR REPORT: RED BULL BRUMOS PORSCHE GOES TO GARAGE AFTER MULTI-CAR INCIDENT WITH BROKEN REAR END
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- January 27, 2007 - The David Donohue/Darren Law/Buddy Rice/Scott Sharp #58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche Riley was hit by a lapped GT car while contending for the overall lead, forcing them to the garage area with a cracked bell housing. After ten hours of the 45th running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, the #58 Brumos Porsche is in the garage with the crew replacing the entire rear end.
The #23 Ruby Tuesday Alex Job Racing Porsche Crawford continued to have bad luck, this time a transmission problem costing them another seven laps, while the #18 VICI Racing XM Satellite Porsche Fabcar, with Formula 1 test driver Gaston Mazzacane from Argentina at the wheel, hit an ARMCO barrier protecting a light pole. Mazzacane was injured in the crash, and, although he was awake and alert when the emergency crew arrived at the scene, he was taken to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach for observation.
The #59 Brumos Porsche Riley with Hurley Haywood, J.C. France, Joao Barbosa, Roberto Moreno - and David Donohue added as a contingency driver, is in fifth place overall, with the #39 Cheever Racing Crown Royal Porsche Crawford driven by Christian Fittipaldi, Sascha Maassen, Eddie Cheever and Emmanuel Collard, in 13th overall after ten hours. The other Cheever Racing Porsche, the #51 car (Mike Newton, Harrison Brix, and Tommy Erdos, with Eddie Cheever added as a contingency) has fallen back after hitting the wall and damaging the right rear suspension, while the #16 Dyson Porsche Crawford (Chris Dyson, Rob Dyson, Guy Smith and Oliver Gavin) is 13th overall after ten hours.
The #85 Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Dirk Werner, Jorg Hardt, Pierre Ehret and Leh Keen) continued to lead the GT class, followed by the #72 Tafel Racing Porsche of Robin Liddell, Nathan Swartzbaugh, Dirk Muller, and Andrew Davis.
