Michael Shank Racing ready for Rolex return
(Daytona Beach, FL) 24 January 07-- The most frustrating, and arguably special, element of an event like the Rolex 24 At Daytona is that it only happens once a year.
So when Michael Shank Racing finished second overall in 2006, the team began immediately to prepare to go one better in 2007. The constant commitment to improvement paid dividends throughout the 2006 season and the team closed out the year with a win in the 9-Hour Miller Motorsports Park season-ender with Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri.
Michael Shank Racing has since moved into a purpose-built facility, retained some of the biggest names in the sport to join their already strong full-season driver line-up, and worked to find and fix any weakness possible to be ready to go for this weekends' 45th annual Rolex 24 At Daytona.
2006 Rolex 24 runners-up Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri will be joined by Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish, Jr. in the Fresh From Florida Lexus/Riley. The No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Lexus/Riley of full-season pilots Henri Zogaib and Ian James will be joined by AJ Allmendinger and Paul Tracy.
"We think we lost this race in the garage last year, not on the track, so we've done everything we can to be prepared for every eventuality," said team owner Mike Shank. "We are really excited to have the driver line-up that we do, Lexus power, and the team of guys we have in place to support this enormous effort. If we don't win this race, we are definitely going down fighting."
