BREMBO BRAKES - THE CHOICE OF
Brake Champion to Fit Majority of Cars at Rolex 24
DAYTONA BEACH, Fl., Jan. 25, 2008 - The Rolex 24 at Daytona, the classic twice-around- the-clock race that annually kicks off the motorsports season, has become a gathering of champions, past and present, from other racing series around the world. Whether four- wheel or two, open-wheel or prototype, these champions have at least two things in common - They're all winners and, most likely, they've won on Brembo brakes, the choice of champions. Whether it's the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, Monaco Grand Prix, or 24 Hours of Le Mans, since Brembo began racing with Ferrari in 1975, the Italian manufacturer of high- performance braking systems has won more world championships at more great venues than any other competitor. In 2007 alone, Brembo-equipped teams won Formula One (Raikkonen with Ferrari), all three NASCAR Championships (Nextel Cup, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck) and the ARCA RE/MAX (Frank Kimmel), three classes of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the LMP1 class of the American Le Mans Series (Audi), all four classes of the Le Mans Endurance Series, all three classes of the FIA GT, the GT class of the Speed World Challenge (Cadillac) and the GT class of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series - and that's only on four wheels. On two wheels, Brembo-equipped bikes won EVERY race of the MotoGP and AMA Pro Superbike Championships! The reason for the company's success is fairly simple: Brembo's constant innovation involving new technologies, materials and state-of-the-art products results in the most comprehensive line of high-performance braking systems and components in the world.
It's no surprise, then, that Brembo will supply more than half the field for tomorrow's 46th edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, including eight Daytona Prototypes and 28 GT cars. Brembo has typically fit most Crawford, Doran and Fabcar chassis since the Daytona Prototypes were introduced in 2001.
However, Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) will be running Brembo caliper and brakes on its #10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley for the second year in a row after its third-place finish last year. Wayne Taylor and Italian Max "The Ax" Angelelli of SunTrust Racing were the 2005 Grand- Am Rolex DP champions, as well as the overall winners of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Taylor, in addition, is a two-time champion of World Sports Cars and the overall winner of the 1996 Rolex. Angelelli and Taylor will be joined by Taylor's 18-year-old son, Ricky, and Canadian Michael Valiente who will co-drive with Angelelli during the entire season.
WTR and Penske Racing will also run Brembo discs on their #9 Toshiba Pontiac Riley featuring an all-star cast of Ryan Briscoe, 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt Busch and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves. Other notable prototypes running Brembo components this weekend are the #03 Vision Racing Pontiac Crawford ( John Andretti, Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt, Tony George and Vitor Meira) and the two Cheever Racing Pontiac Fabcar entries. Brembo-equipped GT cars include seven Porsches prepped by TRG's Kevin Buckler, two Porsches from last year's GT winner at Daytona, Alegra Motorsports, and seven more Porsches from the Farnbacher Loles stable, including the 2007 Rolex Grand-Am Series GT champion, Dirk Werner.
In fact, of the 67 cars taking the green flag tomorrow, 36 (8 DPs and 28 GTs) will be running Brembo calipers and/or discs. Hopefully, Brembo will be able to add another Rolex 24 at Daytona crown to its list of great championships after this weekend. Racing teams and manufacturers such as Cadillac, Ducati, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Lamborghini, who demand the very best, turn to the experts in braking technology and performance: Brembo.
The strong support and trusted relationships that Brembo has with more than 30 original equipment manufacturers and hundreds of championship-winning race teams in F1, WRC, NASCAR, IndyCar and sports cars, is based on the fact that Brembo is the industry benchmark. There is no other company or product line on the market that can match Brembo's level of technology and performance.
