January 10, 2011 - Jacksonville, FL: Brumos Racing brought their new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car to Daytona International Speedway's `Roar Before the 24' Test Days for its highly-anticipated debut as they prepared for their inaugural GT race. The 2011 Rolex 24 of Daytona will mark the first time Brumos has entered a 911 in competition since 1994. The new Brumos car wore the traditional white, red and blue Brumos livery in its first appearance before a crowd of admirers, and it soon became apparent that the #59 had more in common with its predecessors than just its paint scheme, posting the fastest GT time of the test.
Andrew Davis drew the honor of being the first of the Brumos drivers to take the car around the newly-paved track at Daytona International Speedway, kicking off the three day test. He said, "Getting the #59 up on the banking for the first time at Daytona was very exciting. I have to say it sent some chills down my spine to be the driver to take the car on its first laps in the Brumos colors. After that initial excitement it was just a matter of settling down and getting to work. I can't say enough about the entire Brumos crew we have all gelled together really well as a team and made a lot of improvements to the car throughout the test. Leh and I are having a good time together and I think we will push each other to be the best pair of drivers out there. There was a lot of hard work behind the scenes leading up to the test to get everything done, as it all came together very quickly, but our guys don't stop. We stuck to our plan and we got a lot done. I want to thank everyone at Brumos for a great first test and a great start for 2011."
Also on hand for the test was Brumos veteran and five-time Rolex 24 winner Hurley Haywood, who participated in afternoon and evening sessions and quickly felt right at home in the new 911 GT3. Haywood was joined at the test by 2009 Rolex Series GT Champion Leh Keen, who laid down the fastest GT lap of the event on the final day.
Keen was impressed with the weekend's accomplishments, saying, "It was a very successful test. It was our first big event at Daytona, and I couldn't ask for more. We made a lot of progress with the car and also learned a lot about the new pavement. We tried simulating a qualifying run on Sunday and I was able to get in one lap that turned out to be the fastest one for GT during the weekend. All of the drivers are looking forward to the race and our entire team is definitely focused. The track at Daytona is really nice to drive on now it's a lot smoother. And as always, Porsche is a great car to have at the Rolex 24 race, and we are confident that Brumos has the best one out there."
The Brumos team is hard at work making their final preparations for the 49th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The race is set to go green on Saturday, January 29th at 3:30 PM ET, concluding at 3:30 PM on Sunday, January 30th.
