This Week in Ford Racing:
The Grand-Am Rolex Series will be returning to Daytona International Speedway this weekend for the first time since January. Brian Frisselle, co- driver of the No. 10 Ford Dallara for SunTrust Racing, talks about hitting the halfway point of the season and the keys to winning the Championship.
Brian Frisselle-No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara
YOU'RE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON. HOW HAS IT GONE SO FAR? "So far it's gone pretty good. We were just recently in the lead for the Championship and unfortunately, I had an unlucky race in Mid-Ohio that pushed us back in third. We're in a place where we can still win the Championship, so the goal going into the season is always to win the Championship and we put ourselves in a position to win it this year. I think the team has to be proud of that and we're going to put our heads down and work as hard as we can to try and win."
THIS IS YOUR FIRST SEASON WITH SUNTRUST RACING HOW HAS THE TRANSITION GONE SO FAR THIS SEASON? "It's gone really well. It was definitely not an easy transition for me. SunTrust is considered one of the bigger teams in Grand- Am, so it was a lot of pressure, and a lot of adjustment on my part to get used to the organization, but we're really starting to hit our stride as a team now. I'm very comfortable with where I fit in with the team, so everything is good and everything is starting to gel really well just in time for the Championship push."
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON RACING IN DAYTONA FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS YEAR? "I'm excited. This is an especially exciting event because it is in front of the NASCAR fans. It's a great opportunity for Grand-Am to show what kind of racing product they have, which is one of the most exciting forms of racing in the world, especially in road racing. So hopefully some NASCAR fans can become Grand-Am fans as well. It's also a great opportunity to showcase some of our sponsors in front of a lot of people. SunTrust is an excellent sponsor, and Wayne Taylor Racing, and we want to give them the most exposure that we possibly can and it's a great venue to do that in."
AS A TEAM, YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN THIRD PLACE. WHAT'S THE KEY TO STAY ON TOP? "We've just got to be consistent and Mid-Ohio is a perfect example. We did everything perfect and we ended up eighth. We probably should have come away with a win there, so it was a lesson for the team. No matter what, we have to be perfect on all levels, strategy, race and everything. We're going to do our best to be perfect in Daytona and hopefully the rest of the season. Hopefully we'll start gaining points on the leaders from this point out."
YOU FINISHED FOURTH IN THE LAST RACE AT DAYTONA. WHAT ADJUSTMENTS HAVE YOU MADE SINCE THEN? "We've learned a lot since Pirelli came out with a new tire this season. We've really adjusted our Ford to better suit the tire. Our car will be better and also we're coming back with a little less aero than we had at the 24, so it will make us a lot quicker on the straights. Overall, it's going to be good, I think we had a good car in Daytona, we were missing a little bit of speed but the change in racing temperatures will really suit our package. So hopefully the warmer temps will help close the gap."
