Spirit of Daytona's Qualifying Session

With a twist on Saturday's events the Spirit of Daytona 09 Pontiac-powered Crawford qualified 17th overall for the Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park. The team hardly had any track time before a competitor's DP crashed on the front straight away after corner 15, ending the qualifying session early. Had there been more time out on the track, better qualifying positions would have been up for grabs. Not to be disappointed by the shorter qualifying session, the 09 DP was able to once again give helpful feedback to the team.

"We have a great racecar right now, it loves the straight-aways and spits out consistent lap times. We just need to get more front grip," stated Doug Goad, co-owner/driver. Goad was in 09's seat during qualifying and was impressed with the racecar's proficiency on the majority of the track. "Our car has really been prepped great, it is just a matter of figuring out the right way to take on the track."

"Last year at Barber the car was always wanting to over steer, now the rear tires are just gripping too much," says Troy Flis, co-owner/team manager. "But this is just part of racing, it's the strategy of adjusting to new conditions, and figuring out how to take advantage of all your resources and equipment. It also helps to have consistent drivers." On Sunday July 31, the Spirit of Daytona will be race ready for the Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park.
