FINLAY AND VALIANTE READY TO TAKE ON LAST FOUR RACES OF THE 2006 ROLEX SPORTS CAR SERIES SEASON
MOORESVILLE, NC (July 25, 2006) Currently sitting sixth in the Rolex Series Point Standings, Rob Finlay and Michael Valiante look to break into the top-five before the season ending race at the Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday, September 3rd. The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve, coming off a month long break in the race action prepares to do battle on four different race circuits over the next six weeks. The Mooresville, NC- based team spent their break testing. Michael Valiante spent two days (July 9- 10) testing at Barber Motorsports Park with Crawford Race Cars, while Rob Finlay tested his Grand Am Cup Ford Mustang at the same facility.
"I really think my test at Barber with the Crawford team went well," said Michael Valiante. "I really enjoyed the technical parts of the circuit and I'm looking forward to the race this weekend." The Finlay Motorsports crew packed up the team's hauler and headed west for three more days of testing. The first stop, Miller Motorsports Park on July 16-17 where the team participated with several other Grand American team's in a two day test.
The next stop on the testing schedule was Infineon Raceway. The Make-A- Wish/Z-Line Designs Daytona Prototype lapped the 2.52-mile road course logging several testing miles during their scheduled one day test on July 20. "With the Championship coming down to the wire it was nice to have this window of opportunity to go testing," said Finlay Motorsports Team President, Steve Cameron. "We found the Miller Motorsports Park test to be extremely beneficial because it's such a difficult track with the drivers having to learn so many complex sets of corners. It's definitely going to be quite the engineering challenge as the track is very unique and nothing like we've raced on before."
With the testing behind them, Rob Finlay and Michael Valiante head to Barber Motorsports Park for this Sunday's running of the Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant. "We're looking forward to getting back into race competition," said Rob Finlay. "We were able to learn quite a bit about the car over the last several weeks and we feel that we're in good shape for the last four races."
Practice for the 250-mile/109-lap/2 3/4 -hour time limit race is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 28th with qualifying taking place on Saturday. The race is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start and will be aired on Speed Channel at 3:00 p.m. ET, be sure to check your local listings.
