CyberSpeed Racing Off to Alabama For Sunday's Rolex Series Race
MAIDEN, N.C., July 25 - After a successful test at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala., CyberSpeed Racing and drivers Tony Ave of Mooresville, N.C. and Skip Cummins of Houston are aiming for a great finish there in Sunday's Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant.
The race, part of the Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve, is scheduled to be broadcast live on SPEED at 3 p.m. Eastern time. Its distance is 250 miles/109 laps, and it carries a time limit of two hours and 45 minutes.
Ave and Cummins will drive the Maiden, N.C.-based team's yellow and blue Riley Pontiac No. 97 Daytona Prototype.
"I'm looking forward to the Barber race after a successful test, and I find it to be one of the most fun tracks I have driven on," Ave said.
"As an avid motorcyclist since a young boy, it may be hard to get me out of the museum though!" he added, referring to the four-story museum on the grounds that features the world's largest collection of vintage and modern motorcycles.
"As far as challenges, I think the heat will be a big factor, combined with the physical nature of the track," he added.
The weekend forecast for the area available at press time shows near 90-degree temperatures and a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms each day. Rolex Series races can be held in the rain.
There's a promoter's test day on Thursday before the team's first practice sessions on Friday at 9:40 a.m., 10:40 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Saturday's schedule shows practice at 10 a.m., an autograph session at 11:30 a.m. and qualifying at 1:30 p.m. There's one more hour of practice at 10 a.m. on Sunday before the race begins at 2 p.m.
CyberSpeed Racing does not plan to enter the race at Watkins Glen, N.Y. on Aug. 10-11 but it does hope to compete at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. on Aug. 24-26 and at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah Aug. 31-Sept. 2. The team tested at the later road course last week.
