DIAZ A SOLID SEVENTH IN BARBER QUALIFIER AFTER SESSION CUT SHORT

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 30, 2005) -- After completing Thursday's promoter test day, and with Friday practice under his belt, CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates' Luis Diaz took aim today at qualifying on an extremely humid Alabama afternoon in preparation for tomorrow's PORSCHE 250 presented by Bradley Arant at Barber Motorsports Park. However, after fighting what he described as "super-loose" conditions in the defending Rolex Series champion no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley, the 15-minute qualifier was cut short as the no.77 Doran Racing machine lost an argument with the wall coming onto the frontstretch to end the session.

Diaz could only sit and watch in the Ganassi-prepared Daytona Prototype on pit lane as Grand American officials determined the time necessary to clean up the incident involving the no.77 machine would exceed the time left in the session.

"I was first off pit lane, so I knew traffic wouldn't really be an issue," said Diaz, who put the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley on pole earlier this season in Fontana. "The main concern for me was how the car would respond to the conditions. It had been pretty overcast the past few days in testing and throughout the practice sessions, but the weather changed a bit and the car was just all over the place. Although we'll have to start a little ways back, I'm confident that we'll get the car balanced and Scott [Pruett] and I will be fine for the race tomorrow. We just have some adjustments to make in the pre-race warmup."

Fans of CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates can catch the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley in action at the PORSCHE 250 presented by Bradley Arant in Birmingham, Ala. tomorrow at 1:00 pm ET (LIVE, SPEED Channel).
