Billy Johnson leads opening CTSCC practice at Kansas Speedway

Jade Buford is looking for his sixth pole this season in the No. 55 Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage

Billy Johnson will have the distinction of leading the first official GRAND-AM practice session at Kansas Speedway, leading opening practice for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Saturday afternoon.

Johnson lapped the 2.37-mile course in 1:21.697 (104.435 mph) in the No. 61 Roush Performance Ford Mustang, edging out Jade Buford for GS honors.

Buford is looking for his sixth pole this season in the No. 55 Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage and was quick again off the truck with a lap of 1:21.816 (104.283 mph). Third in the GS class went to the No. 14 Doran Racing Nissan 370Z of BJ Zacharias and former Nissan GT Academy winner Bryan Heitkotter.

In the ST class No. 31 i-Moto Mazda Speed 3 drivers Pierre Kleinubing and Jayson Clunie each spent time at the top of the charts with Clunie setting the session’s fastest lap, 1:27.937 (97.024 mph). The No. 93 HART Honda Civic of Chad Gilsinger and Michael Valiante was second with Terry Borcheller third driving the No. 23 BMW 128i Burton Racing.
