Bergmeister to Join Johnson in #88 Comfort Systems/TRG Porsche at Phoenix
Petaluma, California -- Krohn Racing/TRG driver Jorg Bergmeister will pull double duty at this weekend's Phoenix 250 Grand American Rolex Series race. The German will co-drive with TRG regular Steve Johnson behind the wheel of the number 88/Comfort Systems/TRG/Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
The Grand American Rolex Series GT race will be run on Friday evening starting a 7:30 p.m. The Grand Am officials will be running a separate event for the Daytona Prototypes on Saturday night. The GT - only affair Friday night is looking to be an exciting event with some 19 entries.
Steve Johnson, a former Dallas Cowboy and New England Patriots tight-end will be looking for his best finish of the season in Phoenix. With a string of tenth place finishes, the Bristol, Virginia resident is hoping for a good showing in the hometown of sponsor Comfort Systems.
"I am really looking forward to running the GT race separate from the Daytona Prototypes," said Steve Johnson. "When we raced combined, you always have to have one eye on the mirror looking out for them coming. They frustrate us and I am sure we frustrate them too. I am also excited to run with Jorg as my teammate. My regular co-driver, Robert Nearn, has a conflict so Kevin Buckler recommended Jorg. He is one of the best Porsche drivers in the world. I am looking forward to his insight into the car and his speed on the track."
"The last time I ran in GT in Grand Am was in 2003," said Bergmeister. "I think Phoenix will be like a little Daytona. I am not sure what to expect from the tires and the lap times will be around one-minute, so it will be busy. I really like Steve; he is probably the only person racing that I will have to move the seat closer to the steering wheel to drive. I am looking forward to competing in the race and getting more miles under my belt that I hope will help for the DP race on Saturday."
"It will be interesting to see Jorg back in the GT Porsche," said Kevin Buckler, TRG team owner. "He has a lot of time behind the wheel of the 911. He will be able to provide great feedback, help Steve and make the race interesting for the fans."
Round eleven of the Grand American Rolex Series will be run at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday, September 9th for GT and Saturday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m. for the Daytona Prototypes. The races will be televised on the Speed Channel at on Friday starting at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday for the DPs starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.
