Barber, Talladega Partnership to help promote inaugural Barber 250 at The Park
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 13, 2003) -- Barber Motorsports Park and Talladega Superspeedway announced a partnership that will help promote the inaugural Rolex Sports Car Series Barber 250 at The Park. The partnership between the renowned superspeedway and new road course, located only 30 minutes from each other, was announced during an event at Barber Motorsports Park introducing the media to the world-class facility on Wednesday.
"The partnership that has developed between Talladega Superspeedway and Barber Motorsports Park has us working together to make this a win-win situation for everyone," said Grant Lynch, president of Talladega Superspeedway. "We're confident that once the racing begins in May with the Grand American series, people will head to the Park and enjoy a brand of racing that is quite different than what is offered at Talladega."
As part of the partnership, Barber Motorsports Park will have a chance to introduce itself to the hundreds of thousands of NASCAR Winston Cup fans that will converge on Talladega Superspeedway for the Aaron's Dream Weekend, April 3-6. In addition to a display at the Superspeedway featuring Rolex Series Daytona Prototypes, plans are in the works for one of the new Daytona Prototypes to take parade laps around the famous tri-oval prior to the start of the Winston Cup main event.
Grand American President Roger Edmondson was one of the guest speakers at the media event. "The partnership between Barber and Talladega is a great way to expose race fans to this amazing facility and the Rolex Series," noted Edmondson. "I have been to 100 racetracks around the world and probably attended 1,000 races and I can tell you that Barber Motorsports Park ranks among the best in the world. I anticipate the Rolex Series Barber 250 at The Park to be one of the most exciting races of the season."
Nearly 100 people were on hand for the media's introduction to the new Barber Motorsports Park, which will feature the Rolex Sports Car Series during its grand opening weekend, May 16-18. The state-of-the-art road racing facility includes a 2.3-mile, 16-turn road course with 80 feet of elevation changes.
