Angelelli set fastest lap in Thursday practice at Road America
Max the ax fastest at Road America's opening day for the GRAND-AM Rolex Series event. Eric Curran fastest in GT, Sylvain Tremblay leads GX.

Max Angelelli topped Thursday’s lone Rolex Series practice, kicking off an historic weekend which also includes the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. Angelelli wheeled his No. 10 Velocity Worldwide around Road America’s scenic 4.048-mile course in 2:02.130 (119.32 mph), just 0.036 seconds ahead of Dane Cameron in the No. 42 Sahlen’s BMW/Riley, 2:02.166 (119.29 mph).
Ricky Taylor rounded out the top three with a lap of 2:02.181 (119.27 mph) in the No. 90 VISITFLORIDA.com/Go-Pro Corvette DP.
Eric Curran led a competitive GT contingent that included three different manufacturers in the top three positions. Curran – looking to give Corvette its first GT victory since Road America in 2011 – set the session’s fastest lap of 2:10.863 (111. 36 mph) in the No. 31 Whelen Corvette with just over 20 minutes remaining. Andy Lally, driving the No. 44 Porsche GT3 for Magnus Racing, was second in class with a lap of 2:11.071 (111.18 mph), followed by Bill Auberlen in the No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW M3, 2:11.161 (111.11 mph).
GX practice was a friendly competition between teammates Sylvain Tremblay and Tom Long in the No. 70 Visit Florida Mazda 6. In the end, Tremblay set the fastest lap in the final minute with a lap of 2:19.370 (104.56 mph).
The Rolex Series is next on track Friday at 8 a.m. local (9 a.m. ET). The VISITFLORIDA.com Sports Car 250 begins Saturday at 4 p.m. local (5 p.m. ET) and can be seen live on SPEED.
