DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 18, 2005) -- Just one month after the 2005 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series concludes with La Gran Final de la Serie Rolex Sports Car at the historic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, preparations for the 2006 campaign will get underway in earnest at Homestead-Miami Speedway with a two-day test session on December 5-6.
The test days at the 2.3-mile South Florida road circuit will be open to all teams competing in the Rolex Series Daytona Prototype and GT classes, and will likely be the first showcase for new teams, drivers and race cars for the 2006 season. It will be the first of two preseason tests scheduled for the Rolex Series, as the annual Daytona Test Days are slated for January 4-7, 2006.
The tests will be open to media as well as the public. Race fans interested in attending may do so free of charge, and may view the proceedings from the Club Grandstands along the front straightaway.
The 2006 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series gets underway on the weekend of January 26-29, 2006 with the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona. The 2006 twice-around-the-clock classic--which kicks off the annual racing calendar--is expected to see its largest field of Daytona Prototypes and GT machines yet, and stars from the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and open-wheel racing champions are once again expected to take on the world's best sports car racers in America's most important endurance race.
The Rolex Series will also return to Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2006, as the traditional Grand Prix of Miami "sprint race" is scheduled for the weekend of March 23-25. The Rolex Series will once again run in conjunction with the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series in Miami, the first of three shared weekends with the IndyCars.
The 2005 season comes to an end with La Gran Final de la Serie Rolex Sports Car on the weekend of November 3-5 in Mexico City. SPEED Channel will televise the 2005 Rolex Series season finale at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez live beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 5.
