DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 29, 2006) -- Grand American Road Racing Association officials announced today that the champions of the 2006 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve will be honored at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Labor Day Monday, September 4. The evening--celebrating the top drivers, teams and manufacturers from the 2006 Rolex Series season--marks the return of the Rolex Champions Banquet to Las Vegas after a one year absence.

Scheduled for two days after the season-ending Discount Tire SunChaser 9-Hour at the brand-new Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City, Utah, the 2006 Rolex Champions Banquet marks the third-consecutive year that the banquet will be showcased in a stand-alone event at a world-recognized destination.

"When we first held our Champions Banquet two years ago in Las Vegas, it was one of the most popular and best-attended banquets in Rolex Series history," said Grand American President Roger Edmondson. "Our teams and sponsors enjoy having a showcase event in an exciting destination to celebrate our season, and we are pleased that the opportunity to do so presented itself again this year. Miller Motorsports Park is the perfect place to end the racing season and nearby Las Vegas is the ideal location for our drivers, teams and sponsors to celebrate another great year of Rolex Series competition."

The evening begins with a champagne reception at 6 p.m. followed by a sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. Awards honoring the top drivers, teams and manufacturers in the Daytona Prototype and GT classes will be presented throughout the evening. Information on tickets, hotel reservations and further details will be announced next week. Fans will also be invited to purchase tickets to the event.

Towering over the south end of the world famous Las Vegas strip, Mandalay Bay boasts more than 3,300 guest rooms, a 135,000 square foot casino, and a plethora of dining and entertainment options. The resort also features Mandalay Beach as well as the $40 million Shark Reef, which is home to more than 100 species of animals.
