Quotes from Race 2 Valencia Street Circuit

GP3 Series: Nico congratulations on your first GP3 win. Your race seemed pretty straight forward. Talk me through it.

Nico Muller: Yes I just tried to be as fast as possible in the first five/six laps, and the others were fighting behind me which meant I could get away. I had a really good start and saw that I had around 4.5 seconds advantage so about 4 laps from the end I started to control the race and it was quite easy from there.

GP3 Series: And you had no pressure from second place man Merhi?

Nico Muller: No I didn't even see him in the mirror. I know he got near towards the end but it was no problem.

GP3 Series: First win in the Series and a good points hall. You must be looking forward to the next race?

Nico Muller: Yes the next race in Silverstone is track that I actually know, except obviously for the new part. Some fast corners again after here which is quite slow. It will be challenging and I'm really looking forward to it.

GP3 Series: You start from the second row, talk me through your start.

Roberto Merhi: Yes I really had a good start and I had a good feeling with the car. I was on the outside of the first corner and tried to brake late to make up some places, but it was a little bit chaotic. But I was pushing a bit too hard on the first lap and made a few mistakes. Then I just tried to concentrate to overtake the two Manor cars. Jakes made a small mistake in one corner and it was enough to overtake him. Muller was very fast so I just concentrated on staying ahead of Jakes.

GP3 Series: Two podiums in your first weekend. You must be happy with that.

Roberto Merhi: Yes of course. The car was really good today, and the team did a great job -- we have a great car. Two podiums and one fastest lap in the second race and second in the qualifying is really good.

GP3 Series: Congratulations on your podium James, but you didn't have a great start. What happened?

James Jakes: Yes I just had a poor start with lots of wheel spin. It's a shame but I think we've got to be reasonably happy. We had a problem in qualifying and we ended up 29th, the safety mode came on, which is a shame because I think we would've been right up with Esteban. I think Esteban now has a lead which isn't really representative of the championship just because he seems to be having less problems than anyone else. But if someone would have told me at the beginning of the weekend that I would finish 8th and come 3rd in the race today I would've taken it. I had a good race yesterday and today. I just took too long to get past my teammate, but obviously I didn't want to take him out.

GP3 Series: And you had another good battle with Roberto Merhi.

James Jakes: Yes, we were as quick as Merhi but I just made a mistake. I was pushing hard to try and catch the car in first, but I made a mistake and Merhi got past. In the end we were catching him, but it just wasn't enough.

GP3 Series: All three Manor drivers finished in the points today.

James Jakes: Yes we got good points and it's obviously nice for the team who have worked really hard. Now hopefully we can move on. One side of me is happy that we managed to get some points back, but I think we could've won a race this weekend. We live to fight another day and we'll go to Silverstone.
